William P. Macaux, Ph.D., MBA, Managing Founder of Generativity LLC

Educational Background

Bill earned his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Indiana State University.  He also earned an M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy (Butler University) and an MBA (Indiana Wesleyan).  Bill has a long-standing interest in moral philosophy and organizational ethics.  In 2006 he did a brief stint as a visiting scholar at the Hastings Center for Bioethical Research to examine the ethical challenges of leading in the health care economy.  He is a member of Division 13 (Consulting Psychology) and Division 39 (Psychoanalysis) of the APA.  He is also a member of the Disaster Relief Network for the American Psychological Association, and a Disaster Mental Health volunteer with the American Red Cross (most recently deployed to the Joplin MO tornado, 2011).

Career

Prior to founding Generativity LLC, Bill served for 11 years as Managing Director and Senior Consultant in the Boston office of RHR International Company, a consulting psychology firm. He is a licensed psychologist (MA, RI) with extensive experience in consulting to senior executives in private and public sector organizations in the US, Europe, and Africa.
Before his career as a psychologist, Bill gained first-hand experience in line management in the sales and marketing function of high-performance companies (IBM and Scientific Atlanta/Cisco). 

Personal Preferences and Approaches

As a consultant, Bill has worked with executives on three continents from most sectors of the economy including health care, life sciences, higher education, professional services, energy, high-tech, and retail.
Bill’s engagements often focus on one or more of the following areas: (1) assessment and integration of key executive hires, (2) coaching executives at critical points in their career, (3) helping leadership teams achieve healthier more effective dynamics of interaction, (4) designing talent management systems in which line executives play a key role in developing the company’s talent pool to meet growth and succession needs, and (5) designing action-oriented strategies for shaping culture to support a changing organization structure or business model.
